We are a visually impaired couple who are active in the diverse Hastings community with a wide range of interests. I am an experienced project coordinator, arts / craft facilitator and practitioner. My husband has a background in electronic engineering and is the sound engineer in his local church. He is visually and hearing impaired and enjoys music (including playing guitar), amateur radio and photography.

We’re looking for a female PA / Support Worker to support us with various tasks in the home and in the community.

You must be a driver with a clean licence and able to drive our modern automatic car.

The post is for 10 hours a week (guaranteed regular work). An example of weekly shifts could be:

  • Monday 9:00-11:30am
  • Wednesday 5:30-8:00pm
  • Saturday 11:00am-4:00pm
  • Exact shift patterns will be considered dependent on applicant availability. Overtime / extra shifts will be available from time to time to cover annual leave or sickness. Please let us know your general availability on application.

We're both over 50 and have many years experience of managing our own PAs / Support Workers, and look forward to welcoming a new member to our team.

Duties include:

  • Other relevant duties as required

  • Transportation
  • Companionship

  • General domestic duties, including cleaning, laundry and keeping our small courtyard garden tidy
  • Household and personal shopping, including reading product labels and use-by dates
  • Meal planning / preparation – we’re looking for someone who has an interest in cooking from scratch and can support us with ideas for a healthy and varied diet
  • Attending medical and other appointments, including travel and general support during the appointment
  • Attending local activities such as creative workshops, photography / amateur radio clubs and music events
  • Visiting places of interest (e.g. National Trust) and attending events and exhibitions locally and further afield, including travel and support throughout the activity
  • Reading printed material – This is essential and at the core of this post

Candidate qualities:

  • All applicants must have good communication skills and be able to communicate with someone who is hearing impaired.
  • You must be an observant, practical person who can pay attention to detail.
  • You must have a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Computer skills and a willingness to use technology are an advantage.
