I am looking for a friendly and chatty Personal Assistant/Support worker for my 17-year-old son, to get him out and about and develop his independence, whilst keeping him safe.
My son has Quadriplegic Mixed Cerebral Palsy and drives a powered wheelchair. He has a feeding tube and a sheath catheter. He is a character and has a wicked, and very dry sense of humour. He loves WWE and good old classic comedies like Only Fools and Horses, Dads Army, One Foot in the Grave and enjoys a quiz show too.
He also loves visiting places such as the Weald and Downland Museum, and other outside spaces.
The role will involve going on trips to places of interest, using our mobility car with rear access ramp to get there. He will need support with his money, learning how to pay for items or activities. When the support is at home, you will participate in activities linked to his interests.
If you are passionate about supporting others, please apply, we would love to meet you.
Duties include:
- Support with getting in and out of the wheelchair if required.
- Access social and leisure activities e.g. museums, spaces outside.
- Support to bank cards to make payment and consider budgeting.
- Driving our mobility car to access the community
Candidate qualities:
- Experience of PEG feeding is useful or a willingness to learn and have training is required
Notes:
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.
