I am looking for personal care for a Child

Drivers licence required: No

Hours per week:

13 hours per week on Wednesdays, Fridays & weekends. (And possibly Mondays) Exact days and times to be agreed with the employer.

Hourly pay rate:

Starting rate £12.00 p/h - increasing to an enhanced rate of £13.00 p/h the required startup training has been successfully completed.

I am looking for someone to provide care and support for my son at home as well as assisting him to access his local community. My son is 3 years old and attends a specialist nursery. He has health needs due to a genetic condition and therefore requires one-to-one support on school transport. My son is not verbal, he has epilepsy, is tube fed and is a wheelchair user. He is also vulnerable to respiratory conditions.

He thrives on company and socialising with others. He responds excitedly to people he knows well and is a delight to work with. He lives in a busy household with 3 siblings.

Previous experience with complex needs is desired although full training will be given for the specific health requirements.

Due to my sons complex health needs, the successful applicant will require training to meet these needs. This training will be provided.

Duties include:

  • Medication prompting/administering
  • Personal grooming
  • Moving and handling
  • Clinical tasks
  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Housekeeping
  • Shopping
  • Transportation
  • Dressing / undressing
  • Bathroom assistance

  • Pad changing.
  • Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting the child to get changed at swimming pool/gym.
  • Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring')
  • Physiotherapy exercises
  • Accompanying on social and leisure activities and groups/appointments/shopping trips
  • The above duties will involve accompanying parent in disability vehicle, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the child’s wheelchair when out.

Non-smoker due to medical reasons, Vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission

Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position you will be employed directly by the individual employer and not Independent Lives. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
