We are looking for an energetic, fun-loving Personal Assistant to look after our eight-year-old son who attends mainstream school with 1:1 support.

The role will involve engaging him in fun activities in the local area, escorting him to/from and supervising him at local social clubs (eg. cubs, music lessons) and/or taking him on excursions to local facilities/attractions (eg. swimming, cinema, etc).

He has well-managed but complex, life-limiting cardiac and respiratory conditions and has recently also been diagnosed with ADHD. He may require the use of his wheelchair occasionally, especially when he is feeling tired.  He is a bright, inquisitive, and curious boy who enjoys and responds really well one to one support.

Experience is desirable but not essential.

UK driving licence and access to own vehicle desirable but not essential as public transport/ transport from the family can be used.

Duties include:

Personal Care: 

  • Age-appropriate prompting of hand washing and personal care.

Social: 

  • Engage him in age-appropriate activities/hobbies at home.
  • Plan and take him on excursions to local facilities/attractions.
  • The above duties are likely to involve driving our son in your vehicle, lifting his manual wheelchair in/out of your car and pushing his wheelchair when out and about.

Other Tasks:   

  • To monitor his general wellbeing.

Additional requirements

Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours

Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position you will be employed directly by the individual employer and not Independent Lives. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
