16 hours per week in West Sussex school holidays, and occasional evenings throughout the year.

Hourly pay rate:

£20 per hour

I am looking to recruit an enthusiastic and compassionate person to support my 17-year-old son who lives with the impact of trauma.

The role will involve supporting my son to develop independence skills such as accessing community and services, volunteering, cooking, staying safe and developing safe relationships. The role also needs to provide patient, calm and responsive care, delivering a sense of security and stability.

My son is fun, engaging and likes to try new things. He is really into snakes and is a very skilled cyclist. He makes incredible Lego technic models and enjoys being on his laptop or watching YouTube. He is incredibly knowledgeable on cars and would love to spend much of his time in Dealerships! He is also an amazing weightlifter; he is strong and tall.

My son lives with both complex neurodivergent and genetic disabilities, plus the impact of trauma from his earliest years. He can present as emotionally younger than his chronological age. When in distress he can display challenging behaviour. He has a vulnerable Nervous system and is easily triggered; he sees danger where there may not be.

Those working with him will need to attune and co-regulate with him, help him navigate the world, narrating what they see to reassure him most situations are safe, and to see other people’s views and intentions. You will need to be skilled in de-escalation techniques and remain calm under pressure.

Training and experience in the understanding of trauma and its impacts will be required; but you will be provided clinical monthly therapeutic support. It will be vital that you can communicate well between the team members.

Duties include:

  • Accompanying to appointments
