We are looking for a special person to support our very sociable and engaging 19 year old daughter who happens to have Down Syndrome but is blissfully unaware of this.

She is extremely interested in people and the relatively "small" world around her - and once someone has spent a little bit of patient time with her, they will be able to happily chat along happily with her about "her world" - so that's the people that she is familiar with and her varied social activities as well as her school life. She adores all music - is a dreadful singer (but that definitely doesn't stop her) and loves to dance too.  She is also very interested (eating) all food - and gets enjoyment as well as improving her skills in cooking at home.

The role is to support her to attend the various activities she enjoys both at home and out, such as dance and drama classes and hockey.

She needs constant supervision, is extremely vulnerable and has some anxieties around time so you would need lots of patience, kindness and preferably some experience.

We live in an extremely rural area so there will be a considerable amount of driving required but mileage will be paid.

Duties include:

  • Transportation
  • Companionship
  • Bathroom assistance

  • Able to accompany in the warmer months on walks on our doorstep.
  • At the weekends/holidays, some days going out for activities or sometimes staying at our house and doing things at home - just the two of them.
  • Picking up from school and driving to various activities such as drama, dance and hockey in nearby towns.

Candidate qualities:

  • Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Must be comfortable with pets
  • Able to always work to high standards of health & safety

  • We would require a female PA as would need accompanying to female toilets
  • Someone who is comfortable with dogs (we have a whippet and  chickens!)

Additional requirements

Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours

Notes:

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.
