We are looking for an early evening carer to help us care for our 29-year-old son who has Angelman Syndrome. He is a happy young man, who smiles easily and loves company and interaction, despite being non-verbal.
Our evening routine includes helping him with his bath and personal care; using a hoist, supervising him in his bath (throw in lots of interaction; water play, balloons, bath toys and he’ll be a very happy chap!) and then dressing him ready for bed. Evening shifts are typically 7.30pm to 9pm at our family home in Burgess Hill but we can be flexible with times. We have no fixed shift pattern; our little team of evening carers cover the evenings that fit in around their other commitments. We would anticipate offering the ideal candidate 1 or 2 evenings each week
Duties include:
- Assisting our son with personal care/using the toilet
- Helping him into and out of the bath using a ceiling hoist
- Washing his face, body and hair
- Chatting to him/water play whilst he’s in the bath
- Re-making up his bed ready for the night
- Dressing and preparing our son for bed and drying his hair
Candidate qualities:
Our home is a good 20 minutes’ walk from the nearest station so own transport an advantage.
