About me

I’m Claire, I’m based in Hastings, in my mid-forties and in my first year of working as a PA. I was prompted to take up this line of work by my experience of supporting an older, disabled family member. I know the difference day-to-day help and creative problem-solving make to her life and would like to offer the same support to other people.

I’m a friendly person and particularly enjoy working with clients who are looking for an element of companionship as well as practical help at home and to get out and about. I offer the same respectful, patient, discrete and reliable approach that I want for my own family member. Each role is as unique as the client – I know not to make assumptions and how important it is to listen carefully and learn about each client’s individual needs.

Before I started my family, I spent almost a decade working in communications within a health charity, campaigning for access to specialised healthcare and on social and consumer affairs issues affecting disabled people. I worked closely with young disabled people affected by both visible and invisible disabilities and families affected by life-limiting health conditions in a position of trust, gaining insight into issues surrounding specialist healthcare, accessibility and mobility. I find this background helpful in understanding issues that effect some of my clients.

I’m committed to professional development and want to take up all relevant training opportunities to improve my care, alongside my work.

My interests are broad; I enjoy learning about new things, exploring new places and getting to know people. Above all, I am a very family-orientated person and love nothing more than spending time out and about with my two young daughters and husband.

My experience

Through work, family and friendships, I have experience of navigating homes, greenspaces, towns, cafes, shops, attractions and public transport with people with visual impairment and mobility issues, including powered-wheelchair-users.

I have family members with autism and ADHD, both children and adults, and some experience in dealing with challenging behaviours such as demand avoidance and acute anxiety.

My availability is within extended school hours.

I have experience in:

  • Anxiety
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Physical disabilities
