DBS checks – West Sussex adults’ services

Informational poster titled ‘DBS CHECKS’ explaining that all Direct Payment employers should complete Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks on their Personal Assistants (PAs). It defines a DBS check as a record of a person’s criminal convictions and cautions, and outlines the process: the PA completes an online application, submits the correct ID to Independent Lives, and receives their certificate by post. Employers must view the original certificate and cannot make copies. Any convictions, cautions, or reprimands must be referred to Independent Lives for a suitability assessment. For West Sussex Adults’ Services, a new DBS check should be completed every three years, and PAs cannot start work until a new DBS check is completed. Contact details are provided: 01903 219482 (option 3) and DBS@independentlives.org.
