If you’re an Individual Employer in England, there’s a great opportunity to get free training for your Personal Assistants (PAs).
Independent Lives has secured funding from the Department of Health and Social Care to offer free training courses and workbooks to people who employ their own PAs. The funding runs until 28 February 2027, subject to availability.
To qualify, you need to be an Individual Employer in England, aged 18 or over, who employs your own PAs or contracts self-employed PAs*, funded through any of the following:
- your own money
- adult social care Direct Payments
- NHS Personal Health Budgets
Why this matters
Good training makes a real difference. When PAs are confident, skilled and up to date with best practice, it means better, more personalised care, and a stronger working relationship between employer and PA.

*Contracted PAs must have true self-employed status. You may need to provide evidence of this before accessing training.
