Staff from Independent Lives will be taking part in Worthing Pride 2023 on Saturday 8 July, transforming the event into a celebration of inclusivity and support during Disability Pride Month.

Disability Pride Month, observed throughout July, highlights the achievements and struggles faced by individuals with disabilities. The month-long initiative aims to challenge societal norms, raise awareness, and promote the rights of people with disabilities.

With their participation in Worthing Pride, Independent Lives staff demonstrate their commitment to fostering an inclusive society.

Staff will be participating in the pride parade, which begins at 11:30am by the Burlington Hotel on Worthing seafront. The parade is just under a mile long and will finish at Steyne Gardens around 1pm.

Worthing Pride attracts diverse communities by providing a space for individuals with disabilities to express themselves freely and without prejudice. From colourful floats to live performances, the event plans to capture the essence of unity, acceptance, and shared experiences.

Polly Bishop, Engagement Officer at Independent Lives, explains the significance of Disability Pride Month, stating, “Disability Pride Month is important because it allows us to celebrate the strength, resilience, and unique experiences of disabled people. It’s an opportunity to challenge stereotypes and create a fairer society where everyone can participate and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.”
