I am looking for a dynamic, vibrant support worker/personal assistance for my 21-year-old neurodiverse son to be a role model to help him develop his independence so he can navigate the world on his own in the future.
The role will involve supporting him to tackle day to day living tasks at home including food prep and correspondence, getting out and about to carry out social and leisure activities linked to his interests and supporting him to develop relationships with others.
My son would probably describe himself as nerdy; he is intelligent, easy going but passionate about the things he is interested in. He enjoys history, culture, dungeons and dragons, the world, news, nature and animals. Participating in living history reenactments is the highlight of his week. Someone with similar interests whom he can have in-depth stimulating conversations with would be well suited for this role.
With a diagnosis of Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI), which can be changeable day to day, he will need to become familiar with accessing public transport to get to places. This will involve working with him to plan his day, transport routes, helping him to budget, all the while monitoring risks in order to keep him safe.
Duties include:
- Prompts and reminders with personal care
- Assistance with and support to develop budgeting skills
- Work alongside to plan his time, including planning routes to places using public transport
