I am a married 55 year old woman with a progressive neurological condition and require a wheelchair when out and about. I am mobile in our small home. I have severe asthma and a new condition meaning I am on puréed food but need someone around at home when performing personal care and when eating and drinking.
I do not need lifting or manual handling though I may require you to lift my self-propel wheelchair (very light and comes apart) into the car and maybe accompany me to and from (and sometimes during) voluntary work which I love to do since taking ill health retirement from teaching. I enjoy being allowed to just ‘get on with life’ whilst acknowledging my mobility and medical needs are making that impossible for some activities that I love. I also think it’s important to have a good sense of humor!
This job would not suit someone allergic to cats.
Both posts require DBS and yearly training (most of this can be completed at home and is paid for). Opportunities for pension scheme.
Post 1: (potentially at the moment) Driver required for medical appointments which will become weekly in due course but are currently not pre-set dates. You will need to be able to lift a light manual wheelchair in and out of the car. Use of client’s own car may be possible.
Post 2: PA to be around completing light duties whilst client is eating, drinking, getting herself ready, etc. Likely to be Tuesdays / Wednesdays but flexible. Ideally one of these posts would also be open to being a key holder on the very rare occasions when a 10.45pm welfare check is not answered. (Willingdon location) This is desirable, not compulsory. The post is likely to be around 5 hrs a week, TBC. Female only *. This post could be combined with post 1 if someone wanted more hours.
Duties include:
- Dressing / undressing – I usually complete this independently but need someone to be in the house, available to support me if the need arises.
- Eating and drinking assistance - I usually complete this independently but need someone to be in the house, available to support me if the need arises.
- Bathroom Assistance - I usually complete this independently but need someone to be in the house, available to support me if the need arises.
