I am looking to employ a Social Support Assistant to work with my 9-year-old son.

He is a very happy and fun-loving child and I would like someone to collect him from school on a Thursday and then take him to the park, or play with him at his home or elsewhere.

There will also be times when you will be required to engage with him in play activities at my home.

He absolutely adores trains and at times, you will be required to interact with him while he is observing them.

His verbal communication is limited but he can express his views and wishes.

He enjoys video games, drawing, building train tracks for his toy train etc.

There will be occasions when you will be required to assist him to access the loo.

You will be required to drive him in your own vehicle for mileage at 40p per mile.

It is highly preferable that applicants have an understanding or experience of working with autistic children.

This could be a very rewarding role for the right person.

Duties include:

  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Transportation
  • Companionship
  • Bathroom assistance

  • Engaging with play activities whilst on duty at the employer’s home.
  • Collecting my son from school and taking him to the park or other play activities
  • Accompanying my son and engage with his interest in watching trains
  • The above duties will involve driving my son in your own vehicle in return for 40p per mile mileage.

Candidate qualities:

  • Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Happy to work in a smoking environment

  • Able to refrain from smoking or vaping in the workplace.
  • Previous experience with Autism preferred, but this is not as essential as a friendly and enthusiastic approach to this role.

Additional requirements

Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
