We are looking for a caring, patient, and reliable Support Worker to provide one-to-one support for our 15-year-old daughter with Autism and Global Developmental Delay. The role involves supporting her with daily living skills, personal care prompts, social development, and community activities while promoting her independence and confidence.
The ideal candidate will be kind, understanding, and able to provide gentle encouragement to help her engage in new experiences, build strength and mobility, and develop social skills. She enjoys animals, swimming, and trying new activities when supported appropriately.
Due to mobility difficulties, fatigue and a high risk of epilepsy and strokes, the successful candidate must be vigilant and have or be willing to have First Aid and Epilepsy training. Training can be provided.
Experience supporting children or young people with Autism, learning disabilities, or additional needs is preferred. A calm communication style, flexibility, and the ability to build trust and positive relationships are key to this role.
Duties include:
Accessing social and leisure activities e.g. Walks, going to the park, swimming, clubs, days out, cinema etc
Prompting and reminders to carry out personal hygiene tasks. E.g handwashing etc
Lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing a manual wheelchair when out if required
Candidate qualities:
Experience of working with children/young people with Autism would be useful
Experience/training in Epilepsy and first aid is ideal but training can be provided
Additional requirements
Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
