We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and proactive female Personal Assistant to support an 18-year-old young woman living in Hailsham. She is autistic and has a diagnosis of PTSD. Currently in hospital and preparing for discharge, she will have a strong support network in place, and this role will play a key part in her transition back into the community.
The Personal Assistant will provide social and practical support to help her build confidence in going out and developing a structured weekly routine. Responsibilities will include accompanying her to appointments, helping to manage her schedule, and encouraging her to use public transport independently. The role also involves supporting her to develop independent living skills and taking part in shared activities such as walks, beach trips, or games.
She enjoys nature, animals—particularly her bearded dragon—and playing games. She prefers in-person or text communication and finds phone calls challenging. Structured support and clear goal-setting are particularly effective for her. She is keen to return to work, learn to drive, and gradually build her independence at a comfortable pace.
The ideal candidate will be female, as per her expressed preference, and will be patient, understanding, and able to build trust over time. Experience supporting individuals with autism and mental health needs would be beneficial. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to her pace and preferences are essential. A driver is preferred but not required, as she is also able to use public transport.
The successful applicant will work alongside other services that provide support, including Aspens, TCAT, and ATS. This role may evolve as she gains confidence and independence.
