An opportunity has arisen for a reliable, enthusiastic and caring self-employed Male Personal Assistant/Support Worker to support an 18-year-old young man to access his local community, pursue his interests and develop his independence.

The young man lives in Salisbury with his mum and two pets. He has autism, a mild learning disability, left-sided hemiplegia following a stroke at birth, and epilepsy, which is well controlled with medication. He is independently mobile but may need to take short rest breaks when he becomes tired.

The successful applicant will provide support to enable him to enjoy community activities, build social opportunities and increase his confidence while promoting his independence, choice and wellbeing.

He has a great sense of humour and enjoys listening to Robbie Williams (especially attending live concerts whenever possible), watching Coronation Street, and visiting new places. He is also keen to improve his physical fitness, so support with activities such as attending the gym or other exercise opportunities would be welcomed.

The role will include:

· Supporting access to community activities and places of interest.

· Encouraging participation in social and leisure activities.

· Promoting independence, confidence and wellbeing.

· Providing encouragement to maintain and improve physical fitness.

· Supporting safe travel to and from activities.

· Following agreed support plans and responding appropriately should any health needs arise.

The ideal candidate will be:

· Reliable, trustworthy and punctual.

· Friendly, patient and encouraging.

· Positive, enthusiastic and have a good sense of humour.

· Respectful of choice, dignity and independence.

· Able to build a positive and professional working relationship.

· Willing to learn about the young man's individual support needs. Previous experience is welcome but not essential, as guidance can be provided.

A full UK driving licence and access to your own insured vehicle are essential, as the role involves supporting the young man to travel to activities and appointments.
