We are looking for a Personal Assistant to support a young woman with Cerebral Palsy who is striving to live more independently and lead a full, active life.
She knows what she needs and is keen to take more control of her daily routine, but requires assistance to complete certain tasks. Your support will play a key role in helping her achieve greater independence and confidence.
This role will involve providing one-to-one support during her social hours, which are flexible but will ideally begin with Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00am to 4:30pm, with the option to extend until 6:30pm if additional hours are desired.
Activities may include taking her swimming (you won’t need to go into the pool), bowling, shopping, and trips to the cinema. You will also assist with personal care, including feeding and toileting, and may occasionally be asked to prepare meals.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, highly organised, and able to follow a consistent routine, as structure is very important to her. While experience or understanding of Cerebral Palsy would be an advantage, it is not essential, and full training will be provided – including the use of a hoist.
A full, clean driving licence is essential for this role, as you will need to drive her adapted van to access various activities in the community (it is an automatic vehicle).
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is caring, practical and enjoys making a meaningful difference in someone’s daily life.
Duties include:
Candidate qualities:
- Must currently hold a full UK driving license
Additional requirements
Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
Notes:
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.
If you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.
Please note: If you do not hear back within three weeks of applying, unfortunately your application has not been successful on this occasion.
