We are looking for an outgoing, energetic and fun-loving PA to support a friendly 13-year-old boy both at home and out in the community.
He is verbal and, once he gets to know someone, is sociable and enjoys building positive relationships. He can experience some social anxiety, so we are looking for someone who is patient, encouraging and able to help him feel comfortable and confident in new situations.
He has a fantastic range of interests, including gaming, making and editing videos, going for walks, swimming, travelling by train, getting out and about, and arts & crafts. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being active, creative and playful and who can turn everyday activities into opportunities for learning, confidence-building and independence.
The main purpose of the role is to provide enjoyable and meaningful support while also giving Mum some valuable respite. You will support him within the home and out in the community, encouraging him to develop his independence and confidence rather than doing things for him.
When out in the community, you will help him stay safe while encouraging him to become more independent. This will include supporting him with activities he enjoys, such as walks, swimming, travelling on the train and exploring the local community.
We are particularly looking for someone who is proactive and takes initiative in finding new opportunities, places of interest, activities and things to do in and around the Worthing area. You will be encouraged to bring your own ideas and suggestions for enjoyable activities and experiences, rather than relying on Mum to plan each session.
Particular attention will need to be given to road safety and crossing roads safely.
At home, you will encourage and prompt him to learn how to look after his space and gradually develop everyday life skills, including housekeeping and domestic tasks. Cooking and baking can also form part of the role on a relaxed and enjoyable basis, as these are activities he particularly likes.
The ideal candidate will have some experience of supporting children or young people with SEN and will be confident, patient, reliable and proactive. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys supporting young people, is able to have fun and engage with his interests, and can provide the right balance of support, encouragement and independence.
A full driving licence and access to a car would be essential for this role, as the role involves supporting him out in the community, getting to places like out of bounds and national trust days out.
He has a nut allergy and uses an EpiPen. Full training and guidance on managing his allergy and using his EpiPen will be provided, so you will feel confident in keeping him safe.
If you are a warm, enthusiastic and responsible person who would love to make a positive difference to a young person's confidence, independence and everyday experiences, and who enjoys finding new places and activities for him to explore, this could be a fantastic role for you.
Duties include:
Candidate qualities:
- Have experience with SEN children
- Outgoing and fun
