Up to 45 hours per week, flexible hours. Day time and overnight care required: various shifts with option for some overnight and weekend as required

Hourly pay rate:

£14.40 daytime rate, £12.21 overnight rate

I am a practicing artist in my 30s who uses a wheelchair and requires support to live independently in my own home with parents.

I have my own studio in the garden and experiment with all forms of art and craft. I am in the final stages of a Creative Arts degree with the OU.

My condition and physical abilities can fluctuate dramatically. I have lost the majority of my ability to speak so use a speech device and some self-taught sign language to communicate. I recently developed intermittent paralysis in my upper limbs which makes communication challenging and patience key.

I will need you to be flexible, adaptable to any situation, and self-motivated. Reliability and the ability to follow instructions is of the utmost importance.

This role has the benefit of lots of down time

A sense of humour and positive outlook on life is preferable.

Daily activities will vary according to my mood/abilities but will include personal care, domestic tasks and support with social and leisure activities.

A driver with a clean licence and willingness to drive my WAV when required.

Previous experience in the care sector would be advantageous but not essential as full specialist training will be given.

Duties include:

  • Medication prompting/administering
  • Personal grooming
  • Eating and drinking assistance
  • Moving and handling
  • Housekeeping
  • Transportation
  • Companionship
  • Dressing / undressing
  • Bathroom assistance

  • General cleaning and tidying of my part of the home including the garden studio
  • Preparing drinks and meals
  • Helping to feed me when I am unable to do this independently and monitoring me to prevent choking.
  • Support to access the garden
  • Making phone calls on my behalf.
  • Physiotherapy exercises
  • Accompanying on trips out including visiting art galleries, museums, theatre and social community group events as well as exploring local area to complete degree.
  • Accompanying to appointments when required e.g. doctors, hospital
  • Driving my car
  • At home – Support as required with reading, art practice both practical and digital
  • Support with clinical tasks will be required later on once full training has been completed.
