My beautiful and gregarious daughter has been allocated a budget for her to do some wonderful things. Her preferences are candy floss on the pier, art museum visits, cafe pastries and nail salons. She is a fun filled 10 year old ready to take on the world…with a little help. Alternatively, a good session of UNO will suffice and we can see how things progress from there.
To assist her, the candidate will be required to be a companion and a talkative buddy that likes to laugh, someone that can assist with clothing where necessary (adding warm layers/taking layers off) and someone that would be willing to take on more care needs and training to support intermittent catheterisation should the partnership work well.
My daughter can get into and out of her wheelchair independently and depending on the height of the car, can get into and out of the car. The wheelchair needs to be loaded and unloaded for her and so a certain amount of lifting will be required as well as supporting the wheelchair when my daughter is climbing into it.
My daughter does not identify as disabled and is still in the process of deciding what she is/isn’t/can/can’t/will/won’t. The PA will need to use proactive language that accommodates difference and optimism which will be relatively easy given the sunshiny demeanour of my remarkable daughter.
Duties include:
Candidate qualities:
- Sense of humour and an interest in positivity, including positive, unbiased support and interaction that boosts the confidence of the client. Open to honest communication and upfront feedback in order to best meet the needs of the client.
- Willing to take on training where necessary
- Happy and comfortable working in a home with a dog
