We are looking for a support worker who has experience of Autism and Learning Disabilities for our 25-year-old son.
We have 22 hours per week available and would like you to support him when he attends a local support service, this will be 3 days a week for 6 hours per day.
We would like you to take him to the venue and support him while he is there. We also have 4 hours per week for social activities.
Our son is very adventurous and has a good strong family network who can support him. He is keen to learn more independence skills. He is very sociable and friendly with a kind and caring nature, and he loves to try new things and keeps busy, although he doesn't necessarily like mixing with people his own age, like at college.
He is a keen member of the Lewes bonfire society and has great sense of identity and purpose from this. He is a regular at their events including a monthly pub night, fundraising events such as bingo nights, and part of the team for dipping torches and selling programmes. Bonfire season runs from September to November, and it takes up most of his time and energy for this period.
When socialising or out in the community, he can make inappropriate comments, he is a vulnerable adult and without support he would be at serious risk of harm or abuse. Without support out in the community, he may wander off, lose concentration when crossing the road and talk to strangers and would be at significant risk of exploitation. He can experience obsessive behaviour towards females and requires direct male support to redirect his attention and fixations. He requires continual support and supervision to manage his anxieties and reduce risk of harm to himself or others.
