I am looking for personal care for a Man

Drivers licence required: Yes

Own vehicle needed: Yes

Hours per week:

Three hours (preferably in the afternoon) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. 30-minute morning check-in contact on Tuesdays and Thursdays Saturday (If you are available): A 30-minute check-in call in the morning Sunday (If you are available): 45-minute PM call Flexibility: Hours and days can be adjusted to accommodate your schedule.

Hourly pay rate:

£17 for self employed or employed at £14 an hr

I am an amiable father and family man who shares my life with a supportive assistance dog, a teenage tortoise named Torte, and an awesome teenage child (lives mainly with their mother).  A recently assessed neurodiverse individual (autistic, dyslexic, dyspraxic, ADHD, etc.) and also with comorbid conditions including severe anxiety and low mood I am learning to navigate this new ‘normal.’

I'm looking for someone to help me on my journey, who is reliable, compassionate, and efficient, and who can assist me in managing my daily life, maintaining routines, and being organised. Your support will be crucial in helping me stay on top of tasks, avoid overwhelm, and maintain a balanced, independent life.

Duties include:

  • Medication prompting/administering
  • Personal grooming
  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Administration
  • Housekeeping
  • Shopping
  • Cooking
  • Transportation
  • Dressing / undressing
  • Bathroom assistance

Key Responsibilities:

Organisation: Medication management, diary planning, bill payments, hygiene reminders, and personal care planning.

Diary & Calendar Management: Assist with appointments (medical, personal, etc.), journey planning, and meetings.

Housekeeping: Help keep house habitable and set up in a way so that I can keep on top of things, hygiene, tidiness, organisation, etc. So help with and doing where needed laundry, cleaning, shopping, and meal prep.

Communication: Handle interactions with call centres, neighbours, and service providers.

Support: Assist with unexpected matters like hospital visits and vet appointments.

A kind, patient, trustworthy, and understanding individual, ideally with a personal connection to neurodiversity. I need you to first and foremost really understand or quickly learn to understand and appreciate the unique needs of neurodiverse individuals and be willing to challenge and set aside, and replace preconceived medical model based ideas.

You are expected to enhance and continue building your understanding of your skills and knowledge required for this ‘expert’ role with training and other CPD. Independent Lives, National Autistic Society, and other organisations provide free training and other options are available. Note this role assume that you are already an ‘expert’ in your area and you are expected to pursue any professional training outside of contracted hours.

You are expected to be reliable and dependable, ensuring continuity of service e.g. by anticipating and arranging for cover when you cannot meet your commitments whether in an emergency or foreseeable needs.

Good IT skills or willingness to learn.

Self-employed/Contractor preferred. However, your engagement status will be determined as a matter of law. If you are to be employed it will be directly by me, and the amount quoted will be adjusted to reflect this. Independent Lives will most likely manage the payroll.

Self-employed applicants are expected to be registered as such with HMRC and have a UTR code and public liability insurance as a minimum.

Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours

Notes:

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.

Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position you will be employed directly by the individual employer and not Independent Lives. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
