I am looking for personal care for a Child

Drivers licence required: Yes

Own vehicle needed: Yes

Hours per week:

Saturdays, 6 hours once per fortnight, plus time spent commuting to and from Liss (up to 1.5 hours round trip)

Hourly pay rate:

£12.50 plus mileage @45p per mile

My son is a very active, energetic 15-year-old who is looking for a personal assistant who can match his energy and participate with him to access a whole range of activities including swimming and trampolining. He loves the outdoors and is very affectionate and loveable.

My son has Autism and is non-verbal, so the role will require someone with patience to understand his repetitive behaviours and anticipate his needs and emotions. Having experience of Makaton would be preferred.

He will need support to develop the skills to tackle everyday tasks in order for him to be more independent, through encouragement, reminders and prompting.

Time spent commuting to and from work from your home address can be paid for up to a 1.5 hour round trip.

Duties include:

  • Eating and drinking assistance
  • Transportation
  • Companionship
  • Dressing / undressing

Supervise, prompt and encourage my son during drink, snack and meal preparation.
Developing independence with domestic tasks including tidying, putting things away.

Supervision and guidance with some personal care tasks e.g. prompting to get changed after swimming.

Accompanying and assisting him on shopping trips when required
Accompany when accessing social and leisure activities e.g. clubs, groups, swimming, trampolining, walks etc
Accompanying my son to the hairdressers and other appointments if required.
Accompanying on big trips out e.g. theme parks.
Researching and Planning activities linked to my son’s interests.
Support to plan activities/tasks with my son
The above duties will involve driving my son in your car
Whilst on duty at home participate with activities i.e. baking, crafts, watching films etc
Other tasks:
Use encouraging and positive language to enable him to gain confidence
Support to developing independence and social skills in everyday activities.
Break down tasks and activities into steps.

Experience of Makaton is preferred. Ideally have an understanding/ experience of Autism
Previous experience preferred.

Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
