I’m looking for a approachable and dependable Personal Assistant to assist me live my best life. I’m a 22-year-old living in Rye, East Sussex, and I have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Life with a wheelchair doesn’t stop me from enjoying what I enjoy, but having the right aid makes all the impact.

I need someone to work with me on Thursdays and Fridays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. You’ll be assisting me with personal assistance, getting out and about, and keeping my daily diary organized. The pay is £12.84 an hour, and yes, you’ll get paid holidays too!

Duties include:

  • Personal grooming
  • Moving and handling
  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Administration
  • Cooking
  • Transportation
  • Companionship
  • Dressing / undressing
  • Bathroom assistance

  • Supporting me with personal assistance (like washing, dressing, and toileting).
  • Helping with my BiPAP machine and cough assist when needed (don’t worry, I’ll make sure you’re trained!).
  • Joining me on outings, trips, or shopping adventures.
  • Helping me with hobbies and crafts—I enjoy getting creative!
  • Driving me to medical appointments or other places I need to go (a clean driving license and at least 3 years of driving experience are necessary).
  • Keeping my daily logbook up to date with appointments and activities.
  • Chatting with me and sharing some laughs—company is a big part of this job!

Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.
