The candidate should be

Drivers licence required: Yes

Own vehicle needed: Yes

Hours per week:

16 – 24 hours a week Monday – Friday and occasional weekends (times and days will be according to the rota in that week) – Open to possible job share with two PAs.

Hourly pay rate:

£12.00 (Mileage will be paid).

Your role is to support her to live her best life which includes planning a choice of activities together and assisting her to and from work as well as supporting her to stay safe. You should also provide her gentle encouragement with her communication skills and to become more confident, mature and independent.

This is an opportunity for someone to have an enormous amount of fun supporting a lovely, bubbly lady. Previously PA’s have also provided support to concerts, musicals, theme parks, days out by train to Brighton, Cambridge etc as one-off day trips.

She has a happy personality, a great memory, learns by doing and can communicate well. She has Downs Syndrome with moderate learning difficulties. She has a manual wheelchair as she can tire quickly but functions day to day mostly without the need to use it.

The ideal candidate would be a driver as pick up and drop offs will include trips to Carshalton where she is employed from Tuesdays to Fridays. Non- drivers are welcome to apply but the hours will be up to 10 hours per week and occasional additional hours for events i.e. concerts etc.

Duties include:

  • Shopping
  • Cooking
  • Companionship
  • Other relevant duties as required

Additional Duties:

• Driving and accompanying to social events such as:
• Cinema
• Theatre
• Live music
• Accompanying on trips out National Trust sites
• Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family
• The above duties will involve driving my daughter in your car, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the manual wheelchair when out.

• Experienced in managing a wheelchair and a vulnerable person in the community

Notes:

The role requires close personal contact with an individual who is extremely vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission. Preference may be given to applicants who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Careful consideration will be given to applicants who can show the vaccination is not suitable for them on reasonable grounds.

Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours

Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position you will be employed directly by the individual employer and not Independent Lives. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
