Care needed for senior female in her own home
I am looking for personal care for a Woman
The candidate should be a woman
Drivers licence required: Yes
Own vehicle needed: Yes
Hours per week:
6-8 hrs per week and holiday cover
Hourly pay rate:
My Mum, Una, is a sweet and funny 89-year-old with Alzheimer’s who needs someone easy-going, patient, able to engage with her and have a bit of banter. Una is actually quite “with it” and enjoys good conversation and a laugh. She has a wonderful live-in carer, who needs some time off one or two evenings a week or occasionally on a Saturday.
It would be amazing if you are flexible with your availability and can drive. Part of the duties required is a simple meal preparation and to observe Una while she eats due to dysphagia (this is a rare occurrence) - to play cards (gin rummy which she will happily teach you) and conversation and banter. Bathroom assistance is occasionally needed and sometimes to administer medications.
This position is also with the goal that you can cover the existing carer when she goes away on holidays and live-in with Una anywhere from a couple of days, to a week or more – a lot of notice will be given so that the timing can work for both parties.
Una really is quite fun to be around – she is very happy and she loves her life so we are looking for someone who wants to get to know her and become part of her team.
- Una does need to be observed while eating but does not require assistance eating
- Overnight care may sometimes be required
- To be motivated and engaging with the ability to encourage conversation with Una in a kind and happy manner.
- To genuinely enjoy the company of seniors – to listen and to be attentive to Una’s needs.
Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.
Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position you will be employed directly by the individual employer and not Independent Lives. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
